Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers Review | Hardcore Gamer

Hardcore Gamer: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers has an exorbitantly long name, and far too many subtitles. It also happens to be a 3DS remake of the late 90s Sega Saturn and PlayStation classic that never left Japans shores. Therefore, its essentially a port of a sixteen year old game though this isnt the haphazardly, spliced-together port that has been the bane of this mediums existence for the past few years. In fact, its a rather robust update with a variety of new trinkets and tricks, but your question is still probably the same: is it worth the investment? Or perhaps the query is: how does a game such as this hold up under the weight of time? Were here to answer those inquiries.

GR:Timing is everything--and the localized remake of a game that was praised in the past may fall flat when judged by current-day standards. Thats the biggest issue for the overly punctuated JRPG Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers. Compared to games from the PlayStation/Saturn era, its plenty advanced, but much of the game is outdated when set next to current 3DS role-playing titles.

New Video Games April 15th, 2013

I'm going to be singing about how Batman smells and how Robin laid an egg in this week's biggest release, but before I can start on NetherRealm's new fighter, I've gotta finish unraveling the mystery behind this combination gun and computer. Here's the full list of new video games releasing this week:
Injustice: Gods Among Us (Xbox 360, PS3) - April 16th, 2013 Pandora's Tower (Wii) - April 15th, 2013 Victoria II: Heart of Darkness (PC) - April 16th, 2013 Darkfall Unholy Wars (PC) - April 16th, 2013 Star Wars: The Old Republic - Rise of the Hutt Cartel (PC) - April 14th, 2013 Forza Horizon 1000 Club (Xbox 360) - April 16th, 2013 Dishonored: The Knife of Dunwall (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) - April 16th, 2013 Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner - Soul Hackers (3DS) - April 16th, 2013 God Mode (Xbox 360, PC) - April 19th, 2013 Call of Duty: Black Ops II - Uprising (Xbox 360) - April 16th, 2013 Sacred Citadel (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) - April 17th, 2013 I'm quite a bit more excited for Injustice than I thought I would be, which has made the wait for a review copy excruciating. As of today, we haven't received ours so I'm ready to head out to a midnight launch near me. I'm headed straight for the story mode though. I realize that a major component of fighting games is the competitive play, but ever since NetherRealm released their reboot of Mortal Kombat, there's been a much bigger focus on single-player content in the genre.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner - Soul Hackers Review (Cubed3)

"The place: Amami City The problem: The Phantom Society The solution: You, your COMP, and your crew, The Spookies That's the setup for Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner - Soul Hackers. Originally a SEGA Saturn game, then ported to the Sony PlayStation, this is the first time Soul Hackers has seen an official English translation. Sony turned down a previous attempt at a localisation of the original PlayStation version. Thankfully, for fans of the series, Atlus pulled through with a 3DS translation. Is Soul Hackers everything Shin Megami Tensei fans have been waiting for so long, though?", writes Cubed3.
